The Master Chorale of South Florida Announces Season No. 6,
a
“Season of Musical Diversity”

Now in its sixth year of thrilling and inspiring South Florida audiences, the critically acclaimed Master Chorale of South Florida will present four programs for the 2008-2009 season that showcase the group’s choral talents and versatility. This year’s selections include timeless music ranging from early chant to Romantic and modern classics. Three concert series will be conducted by Dr. Joshua Habermann, the Master Chorale’s new artistic director and conductor. Dr. Habermann will also prepare the Chorale for the fourth concert, which they will perform with the Russian National Orchestra at the 2009 Festival of the Arts Boca.

On November 14, 15 and 16, 2008, the Chorale will present Felix Mendelssohn’s most famous work, the spectacular oratorio Elijah. The 140-voice chorus will be supported by the highly regarded Boca Raton Symphonia and four soloists. The role of Elijah will be sung by bass Donnie Ray Albert, who wowed audiences in the Master Chorale’s April production of Carmina Burana. The roles of Ahab and Obadiah will be sung by tenor Glenn Siebert. Mezzo Hannah Sharene Penn will return to sing the roles of Queen Jezebel and an angel. Soprano Angela Cadelago will make her Master Chorale debut singing the roles of the widow, the youth and an angel.

On December 12, 13 and 14, 2008, the Master Chorale will team with the world-renowned Empire Brass quintet in an all-new version of their popular holiday concert. Selections to be performed include Deus in Adjutorium from Monteverdi’s Vespers,

In Dulci Jubilo by Prateorius, Hanukah songs, popular European and American carols, and holiday songs such as White Christmas. Specifically for this concert, the Empire Brass is writing new arrangements of many holiday favorites for brass and chorus.

On April 24, 25 and 26, 2009, the Master Chorale, again accompanied by the Boca Raton Philharmonia, will showcase our nation’s choral culture with some of the best choral-instrumental works ever written by American composers. Included on the program will be the full orchestra version of Morten Lauridsen’s ethereal Lux Aeterna, Leonard Bernstein’s blockbuster Chichester Psalms, and works by popular American composers Samuel Barber and Randall Thompson.

All Broward County performances will take place at the First Presbyterian Church of Pompano Beach (“The Pink Church”). All Miami-Dade performances will take place at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral. All Palm Beach County performances will be held at Pine Crest School in Boca Raton. For dates, times and locations, please see www.masterchoraleofsouthflorida.org.
