Master
Chorale of South Florida Chooses Program Partners
for April 2005 Concert Series
The Master Chorale of South Florida today announced that it
has chosen the new Boca Raton Philharmonic Symphonia to provide
orchestral accompaniment for the Chorale’s April 2005
performances of Schubert’s Mass No. 6 in E-flat Major.
“The
Boca Raton Philharmonic Symphonia is comprised of former Florida
Philharmonic Orchestra players who are highly respected and
very good at what they do. This will ensure the level of quality
musicianship we expect,” says Mark Glickman, president
of the Master Chorale of South Florida. “We are very excited
about working with them on this glorious piece of music.”
The
Schubert Mass also calls for five soloists. After an exhaustive
search for professional voices that will provide the desired
blend, four have been chosen. Names will be released when all
soloists, including the fifth yet to be determined, are under
contract.
The
Schubert Mass will be a South Florida premiere. For unknown
reasons, Schubert’s Mass No. 6 in E-flat major has never
been performed in South Florida. Written in 1828, the dramatic,
romantic choral mass continues the tradition of Beethoven while
hinting at Verdi and Brahms. The soloists and chorus intertwine
with orchestra in memorable fugues while showing their separate
talents in movements that are alternately melodious and rhythmic.
Performances
will take place at 8 pm on Friday, April 15, 2005, at St. Thomas
Moore Church in Boynton Beach; at 8 pm on Saturday, April 16,
2005, at Second Presbyterian Church in Fort Lauderdale; and
at 4 pm on Sunday, April 17, 2005, at First United Methodist
Church of Coral Gables.
In
the Master Chorale’s season opener, “Singing in
the Season,” the Master Chorale will partner with The
Empire Brass, America’s top brass quintet, in music of
Thanksgiving, Christmas and Chanukah. Choral and brass pieces
from the Renaissance through the 21st century will also be included.
Concerts
will take place at 8 pm on Friday, November 19, 2004, at St.
Jude Catholic Church in Boca Raton; at 8 pm on Saturday, November
20, 2004, at Second Presbyterian Church in Fort Lauderdale;
and at 3 pm on Sunday, November 21, at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral
in Miami.
Seating
for all Master Chorale is limited. Advance tickets at $25 each
may be purchased by calling the Master Chorale offices at 954-418-6232,
